“So Did I” is a call and response game I used to play when I was a kid. The “teller” makes three statements beginning with “I”. The listener responds with “So did I” after each one. Then the “teller” changes the pronoun to refer to an object instead of himself, and when the listener responds “So did I”, the results are hilarious. Aside from being a funny book, it is a good lesson on the importance of pronouns. One little pronoun change makes a world of difference! Kids are throwing their heads back and guffawing when I read it to them. It is so fascinating to watch them then try to tell their own episodes. They often struggle to get to the punch line until they catch on to the necessary pronoun switch. Then they are off and running with a favorite new game.
Bryant Canzoneri is the son of David and Carrie Canzoneri. He is a graphic designer at UNT in Denton, Texas. He has been drawing his whole life. (You should see the Alamo battle pictures he drew when he was very young!). His bright, bold illustrations bring this game to life. His eye for design is evident in these lively, colorful pictures. This is his first book.
